West Virginia ARES®  Mission Statement

The principal mission of the West Virginia Amateur Radio Emergency Services (WV ARES® ) group is to provide emergency communication for the communities of within West Virginia  when called upon.

In addition, the following items are also considered to be fundamental purposes for which the group has been established:

bulletWV ARES®  will provide communications services to communities served for special events such as parades, foot or bicycle races, etc., whenever appropriate for the purpose of training and enhancement of communications skills of its members.

bulletThe membership will help establish a self-contained network of amateur radio stations or other necessary equipment in locations deemed appropriate for provision of critical information flow in an emergency situation.

bulletThe group will establish and constantly improve efficient procedures for contacting members under emergency conditions and for assigning them to critical locations.

bulletMinimum levels of portable equipment kit requirements have been established and an up to date list of all member kit capabilities will be maintained to insure that emergency communications preparedness is known and available at all times.

bulletFormal training programs for all members will be established in order to insure that expectations of the members are clearly understood and that basic levels of skills and performance required in emergency conditions of different types will be available.

bulletPublicity for WV ARES®  activities will be provided in order to obtain more public and government awareness of and support for the group and its capabilities.

bulletAdequate training toward licensing of interested individuals for qualification as radio station operators at critical locations such as school, hospitals, government agencies, etc. will be provided by WV ARES® .

bulletNew members will be sought by the group in order to maintain and expand the necessary capabilities for it.

bulletFund raising activities will be established so that sufficient finances become available for the further provisioning of WV ARES®  equipment in furthering its mission.

CQ CQ CQ.  CALLING THE WEST VIRGINIA ARES/RACES  NET.  THIS IS A DIRECTED ARES/RACES NET OPERATING ON 3.811 KILOHERTZ BY AUTHORITY OF THE FCC AND THE STATE OF WEST VIRGINIA.  THIS IS (Call Sign), NET CONTROL.  THIS NET MEETS   THE FIRST THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH, FOLLOWING THE CLOSING OF THE WEST VIRGINIA FONE NET.  THE PURPOSE OF THE NET IS TO TEST THE  EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES OF STATIONS WHO ARE  DEDICATED TO PROVIDING EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS SERVICES TO THEIR RESPECTIVE COMMUNITIES; TO HANDLE ARES/RACES TRAFFIC; TO GATHER EC/DEC MONTHLY REPORTS; TO SHARE ARES/RACES PROGRAM INFORMATION AND TRAINING.  ALL STATIONS INTERESTED ARE INVITED TO CHECK IN, WHETHER OR NOT YOU ARE A MEMBER OF ARES OR RACES.  THOSE STATIONS NOT DIRECTLY CONCERNED ARE REQUESTED TO KEEP THE FREQUENCY CLEAR.  THANK YOU.

IN-STATE CALL UP WILL BE  BY DISTRICTS.  WHEN CHECKING IN, GIVE YOUR CALLSIGN ONLY.  AFTER WE HAVE A LIST FOR YOUR DISTRICT, NET CONTROL WILL CALL ON YOU FOR COMMENTS.  AT THAT TIME, GIVE YOUR NAME, COUNTY, AND ANY ARES/RACES APPOINTMENT.  ALSO LET NET CONTROL KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY TRAFFIC, ANNOUNCEMENTS, OR REPORTS FOR THE NET, WHICH WILL BE HANDLED NEAR THE END OF THE NET, UNLESS YOU ARE SHORT-TIME.

NEXT, DISTRICT THREE:  PLEASANTS, RITCHIE, WOOD, WIRT, JACKSON, ROANE, AND MASON COUNTIES. 

NEXT, DISTRICT FOUR:  LEWIS, GILMER, CALHOUN, BRAXTON, AND WEBSTER COUNTIES. 

NEXT IS DISTRICT FIVE:  RANDOLPH, UPSHUR, BARBOUR, TUCKER, PENDLETON, AND POCAHONTAS COUNTIES. 

NEXT IS DISTRICT SIX:  JEFFERSON, BERKELEY, MORGAN, MINERAL, HAMPSHIRE, GRANT, AND HARDY COUNTIES.

LAST IS DISTRICT TEN:  KANAWHA, BOONE, PUTNAM, LINCOLN, WAYNE, AND CABELL COUNTIES.
